CRAFTS FAIR TO OFFER HOLIDAY GIFT IDEAS.

VALENCIA - Holiday shoppers hoping to get a head start will have the perfect opportunity to find original items at the 14th annual Holiday Arts and Crafts arts and crafts, term for that general field of applied design in which hand fabrication is dominant. The term was coined in England in the late 19th cent. as a label for the then-current movement directed toward the revivifying of the decorative arts. The chief influence behind this movement was William Morris. By the mid-19th cent. Fair at College of the Canyons.

Dozens of vendors offering a variety of craft products will be set up in the college parking lot from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday on the corner of Rockwell Canyon Road and Valencia Boulevard in Valencia. Admission and parking are free.

This year's fair will include some new vendors.

Angel's Breath Gel Candles will be joining the fair, selling gel candles embedded with sea scenes and angels. New vendor Gwen Petty will be offering her sugar-icing cake decorations for all occasions, which include gingerbread men, Santa, snowmen and teddy bears.

Two well-known local artists will return to the fair this year. Doreen Adams will be in the same space she has filled for many years with her hand-painted china and wood, and Wanda Summerell will be on hand with her hand-cut and painted wood creations.

Other items available for purchase will include T-shirts, ceramics, dolls, holiday decorations and jewelry.

For information about the fair, call Regina Hall at (661) 259-7800, Ext. 3385. Proceeds from the annual event benefit the college's Classified Coordinating Council.

The following craft boutiques are also taking place this weekend:

--Second annual Holiday Boutique, sponsored by the Castaic Chamber of Commerce, will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today on the corner of Lake Hughes and Castaic roads in Castaic. The boutique offers one-stop shopping for all your holiday needs, as well as an astro-jump for the kids and pictures with Santa. For information, call the chamber office at (661) 295-8303.

--Annual Agua Dulce Holiday Boutique will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m today at the Agua Dulce Women's Club, 33201 Agua Dulce Canyon Road, Agua Dulce. Crafters from all over Southern California will be offering their unique and handmade items for sale. Hourly raffles, a bake sale and the club's famous luncheon will also take place.
