Customer Potential Management (CPM (1) (Critical Path Method) A project management planning and control technique implemented on computers. The critical path is the series of activities and tasks in the project that have no built-in slack time. ) Corporation a healthcare customer relationship management (CRM (Customer Relationship Management) An integrated information system that is used to plan, schedule and control the presales and postsales activities in an organization. ) leader and CRM health portal developer, has further expanded its proprietary Consumer Healthcare Utilization Index(TM) (CHUI) to assist healthcare organizations in maximizing service utilization and market projections based on service line and market share.

Known as CHUI level III, this addition is based on 29 collections of diagnostic-related groups (DRG DRG,
n the abbreviation for diagnosis-related group.

DRG

DRG Diagnosis-related group Managed care A unit of classifying Pts by diagnosis, average length of hospital stay, and

, and urology urology

Medical specialty dealing with the urinary system and male reproductive organs. It traces its origin to medieval lithologists, itinerant healers who specialized in surgical removal of bladder stones.
, and is based on geodemographics. CHUI III complements previous CHUI levels I (based on MDC (1) (Mobile Daughter Card) See riser card.

) groups and II (based on ICD-9 groups, indicating the top 100+ diseases and procedures of the 21st century). Using DRG groups, providers are better able to forecast what medical service areas patients will utilize most to plan accordingly, thus maximizing revenue and bringing better return on investment.

Each CHUI score is a predictive number between 0 and 999 that indicates the likelihood an individual will use specific healthcare services. The higher the CHUI number, the greater the likelihood the individual will need the service. The numbers are gathered through an algorithm based on results of data mining research.

CHUI is designed to help planners and marketers:
- More accurately identify and estimate areas of health risk.

- Determine individual utilization of health services, based on reimbursement
models, for better market and risk analysis and budget planning.

- Develop individually based communications strategies for patients and
prospects.

- Identify patients/prospects who could benefit most from specific healthcare
services.

- Continually refine the channels and messages used to reach appropriate
audiences for improved efficiency, health and long-term patient relationships
and loyalty.

"Applying CHUI III is useful because it is modeled on DRG groups, which are helpful for planning purposes. By discovering what DRG service areas contain higher CHUI III scores, healthcare marketers and planners know where to invest their time and efforts for determining market gaps and developing plans to increase market share and improving the hospital's medical service areas," states James Hallick, director of software development, CPM Corporation.

For example, if a healthcare provider wants to market new cardiology cardiology

services to men age 25-55 in an area but 60,000 men between those ages are in the database and the budget will only accommodate mailing to 20,000, applying CHUI III can help solve the problem. By utilizing this level of CHUI, those men are scored based on the DRG category of cardiovascular medicine. Once scored, the 20,000 men with the highest CHUI III scores for cardiovascular medicine would become the primary audience and receive the mailing.

CPM's patent-pending Consumer Healthcare Utilization Index is the only individual based segmentation system for the healthcare industry. Each individual has a CHUI score for each category, group, or service area scored. Special CHUIs can be built for specific applications. CPM built its index with proprietary data modeling and mining techniques. The index is based on a group of approximately three million patients and more than 10 million individual encounters. Individual identifiable information was removed to protect patient privacy.

CHUI differs from cluster segmentation systems by going beyond patient sex, zip code zip code

Adj. 1.
