CPCO'S CONSERVATION PROGRAM RECEIVES NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD

JACKSON, Mich., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Consumers Power Company's landmark energy conservation program, Reduce the Use, has received national recognition for its environmental benefits.
Renew America, a Washington-based coalition that includes representatives from the Sierra Club, the Alliance to Save Energy, and the Natural Resources Defense Council, among others, said that Reduce the Use has been recognized as a "model of environmental excellence." Consumers Power is now eligible for Renew America's National Winners awards, which will be announced Oct. 13, 1993.
"Reduce the Use has exceeded our expectations and has played a significant role in helping our electric customers achieve real energy savings," said David W. Joos, Consumers Power's vice president of marketing. "Today's recognition is further evidence that sound environmental stewardship and prudent energy planning can work together for the benefit of all," Joos said.
Reduce the Use was launched in March 1992, following approval by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC). The program concludes
Aug. 31, 1993. Consumers Power has requested authorization for new electric energy conservation programs in the electric rate case currently before the MPSC.
