Powered by this technology, CSG appliances scan Internet traffic Internet traffic is the flow of data around the Internet. It includes web traffic, which is the amount of that data that is related to the World Wide Web, along with the traffic from other major uses of the Internet, such as electronic mail and peer-to-peer networks.  up to twelve times faster than other gateway scanning products. As a result, the products can secure high volumes of Web, e-mail, and other Internet traffic generated by thousands of computers, without turning the Internet gateway (1) See cable/DSL gateway.

into a network bottleneck. In the same way that previous innovations enabled anti-virus scanning to be extended from individual computers to e-mail traffic, today CP Secure's new scanning technology enables anti-spyware scanning to be extended from e-mail traffic to real-time Web traffic. E[acute accent]"Approximately 80% of the items that our CP Secure appliances catch is spyware coming through Web traffic," said Tim Stowell, CISM (Certified Information Security Manager) The award for successful completion of an examination in information security management from the Information Security Audit and Control Association. "With the Content Security Gateways installed, we rarely have spyware in our network, and when we do it's because some laptops were traveling the Internet outside the perimeter protection of the CSGs." E[acute accent]Spyware is a form of malicious software that spies on computers and steals sensitive data. Although different from traditional viruses and worms, spyware is classified with viruses and worms as malware -- malicious software designed to fulfill purposes contrary to the interests of the computer user.
