RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 1996--Carolina Power & Light crews and facilities have operated well through the winter storm that has blanketed much of the state under snow and ice, and despite scattered Scattered

weather-related outages, all but a few customers had power today.

Peak demand for electricity by CP&L customers was in the neighborhood of 9,000 megawatts Monday morning, slightly above the average for this time of year but well below CP&L's all-time peak-demand record of 10,156 mw, set last August.

The company foresees no difficulty in meeting the increased customer demand. In fact, CP&L has been able to provide power to other utilities to assist them in meeting their own customer demand.

At the height of the storm, CP&L had several thousand customers out. During the weekend, there were a total of about 48,000 customers without power at various times for brief periods. CP&L crews worked throughout the period to restore power as quickly as possible. At around 10 a.m. today, only about 500 customers were without power in scattered outages throughout CP&L's North Carolina North Carolina, state in the SE United States. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean (E), South Carolina and Georgia (S), Tennessee (W), and Virginia (N). Facts and Figures
