If Thursday's 2-0 nonleague victory over visiting Saugus was any indication, that problem appears to be solved.

She was 2 for 3 against the Centurions (8-3) and scored both runs for Quartz Hill (7-5).

Cox, who also earned the victory in the circle, led off the first with a ground-rule double and later scored on freshman Sara Moore's sacrifice fly.

Cox led off the sixth with a flare single over shortstop and scored two outs later on an error.

``It was a good confidence builder,'' she said of beating the defending Southern Section Division II champions. ``And it was a good personal achievement for me.''

With two out and no one on in the seventh, however, things got interesting.

Cox hit Lauren Blaire with a pitch. Tracy Passafiume followed with a grounder to shortstop that was thrown away by Amber Slaton.

Cox, who had thrown first-pitch strikes to 16 of the first 22 batters she faced, then hit Valarie Reyes with another pitch to load the bases.

Sonia Zapata was retired on a called third strike, however, to end the threat and the game.
