COWLES MAGAZINES ANNOUNCES PLANS TO PUBLISH A NEW MAGAZINE

DENVER, Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Cowles Magazines announced today plans to publish a new magazine in Denver. The publication, Rocky Mountain Magazine, will focus on the six Rocky Mountain states -- Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming, as well as the Canadian province of Alberta.
It will feature the legendary outdoor attractions of the Rockies and showcase the area's traditional and emerging lifestyles.
The premier issue is schedule to go on sale May 24, 1994, with distribution of 100,000 copies. Cowles President/Chief Executive Officer Bruce Barnet said the spring/summer issue will be followed in late August with a fall/winter edition. "A bi-monthly frequency is virtually certain to begin in 1995," Barnet said.
Rocky Mountain Magazine publisher is Harry Myers, a Denver native who relocated to Denver as manager of six Cowles magazines.
Myers was responsible for the successful launch of Western Styles magazine in March of this year. It will become a bi-monthly publication with its next issue due out Jan. 4, 1994.
Heading editorial execution of Rocky Mountain Magazine is Charlie Meyers, veteran Denver Post ski editor and outdoor writer, who recently was inducted into the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame. Meyers will continue his duties at the Post.
"No magazine focuses exclusively on the Rockies -- the area's boundless diversity of lifestyle opportunities," Myers said. "Rocky Mountain Magazine will fill that void.
"The allure of the Rockies is worldwide," Myers said, "and our publication will address those enthusiasts everywhere, with majestic photographs, muscular writing from a long list of top-rank contributors, and a comprehensive package of reader services in every issue. We'll zero in on the best places to go for fishing, skiing, mountain biking, camping, climbing, hiking and white-water excitement."
He said features will include profiles of those personalities who epitomize mountain lifestyles, controversial issues that impact both growth and the conservation of the region and a wide array of high interest departments dealing with gear and apparel, real estate to own and to rent, event calendars, photography, and more.
The magazine will have a cover price of $2.95.
Cowles Magazines, publishers of 22 special interest consumer magazines, is part of Cowles Media Company of Minneapolis, a diversified media concern with interests in newspapers, magazines and other information products and services.
