Presented by Ant & Dec, the talent show premiered on 9 June 2007, and was broadcast daily with a live final on 17 June 2007. returns tonight, said he is more interested in making quality TV than money. His current deal is worth about pounds 20million over three years. But he said: "It isn't about how much I can squeeze out of them. All I worry about is 'Can we make a better show than last year?' I don't believe in making the quality go down." Cowell ended months of speculation yesterday by confirming he intends to stay with ITV when his contract expires in December. He said: "I have a brilliant relationship with ITV and they have been very kind to me. I will never forget the fact that without ITV we would not have launched our shows initially. So as far as I am concerned I still owe them a debt." It is thought ITV's top stars will be asked to accept salary cuts of about 20 per cent a year as the channel tries to cope with a worrying slump in advertising revenue. For Cowell that would mean around pounds 4million less from a three-year deal. But he said he would take a cut, adding: "My main concern is the shows we make and making sure they can afford to be made." The Mirror revealed last month that Ant and Dec, close friends of Cowell's, were also willing to take a pay cut. Ant said: "It's a tough time for everyone right now. "If we're offered less, so be it. For me it's all about the shows. "I just want to make great shows and brilliant programmes and money comes after that." CAPTION(S): PLEDGE Simon Cowell |
