COWBOYS FIVE YEARS RUNNING.
CASTAIC - With senior Troy Werner winning yet again and junior Alysia Johnson shaking off a case of dead leg at the starting line, Canyon High was able to sweep both the boys' and girls' team titles at the Foothill League finals Thursday for the fifth year in a row.
Canyon raced without seniors Ryan Morgan and Mark Bingham, two of its top five runners on the boys' side, as well as freshman Brenda Cohen, who has battled a hip-flexor injury for nearly a month. But the Cowboys put together another powerhouse performance on the 3-mile Lake Castaic course.
Twelve days after he won his first varsity race at the prestigious Mt. San Antonio College Invitational, Werner again took first place - albeit on a far smaller stage. Werner won in 15 minutes, 45 seconds.
Burbank senior Kyle Ivie finished eight seconds back in second, followed by senior teammate Stratos Christianakis in third.
