COWBOY FETE TO WIDEN ITS HORIZONS\Poetry festival to be expanded.

Byline: Sherry Joe Crosby Daily News Staff Writer

Baxter Black Baxter Black (born January 2, 1945) is an American cowboy, poet, philosopher, former large-animal veterinarian, and radio commentator.

Black grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

The entertainers are part of an expanded festival that includes twice as many trail rides, two square dances and, for the first time, a poetry reading at the Hart Mansion.

"We have twice the number of ticketed events," said city spokeswoman Gail Ortiz. "We sold out the last two years. We want to provide people opportunities to see performers."

More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the three-day extravaganza, which will take place March 29, 30 and 31 at Melody Ranch and Motion Picture Studio in Placerita Canyon.

This year, the city is offering four trail rides: two at Vasquez Rocks Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park is a 905 acre (3 km²) northern Los Angeles County, California USA park acquired by LA County government in the 1970s.  and two at William S. Hart Regional Park in Newhall. The festival also includes a poetry reading for 50 people at the western star's Spanish colonial mansion in the park.

Other acts scheduled for the event include Don Edwards For other persons named Don Edwards, see Don Edwards (disambiguation).

For those interested in kicking up their heels, dances will be held throughout the weekend ranging from $6 to $10 for admission.

"We see this as a tourist event as part of our economic development to draw people here," Ortiz said.

But profits have been elusive for the city, which has broke even for the past two years. Last year, the event generated about $140,000, Ortiz said.
