COVENTRY CORPORATION CLOSES TRANSACTION TO SELL DENTAL HMO.


NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 3, 1997--Coventry Corporation (Nasdaq/NM:CVTY) today announced the completion of its previously announced agreement to sell Champion Dental to First Commonwealth, Inc. (Nasdaq/NM:FCWI) for $5.5 million. Champion Dental is a managed care dental plan in St. Louis and was owned by Group Health Plan, a Coventry subsidiary. Champion Dental provides services to 60,000 members and generated approximately $2.2 million in annual revenues. First Commonwealth specializes in providing dental care and a broad range of innovative dental products designed to meet the needs of a wide range of employer groups employer group Association of employers Managed care An entity with a current group benefits agreement in effect with a health plan to provide covered health care services to its employee-subscribers and eligible dependents. . The transaction received the regulatory approval of the state of Missouri.
