COURT DENIES ROYAL'S REQUEST FOR TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST HOOVER

NORTH CANTON, Ohio, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Judge Sam Bell, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio, Eastern Division (Akron), yesterday denied Royal Appliance Company's (NYSE: RAM) request for a temporary restraining order to prevent The Hoover Company from advertising and selling its upright vacuum cleaners with its new cleaning efficiency rating.
Royal filed suit May 17 in U.S. District Court in an attempt to stop Hoover from using the new system, which the company recently began putting on its upright cleaners to tell consumers the vacuum cleaner's cleaning effectiveness per amp. Hoover asserts that its cleaning efficiency ratings are far more meaningful than amperage ratings, which Royal uses on its cleaners.
Hoover filed a countersuit against Royal June 8 in the same court charging Royal with false and misleading advertising, defamation, product disparagement, interference with business relationships, and abuse of process.
