COUPLE WOUNDED IN GANG SHOOTING.

A man and woman were shot in the early hours of Saturday morning during an attack on their home in a neighborhood plagued by street gangs, police said.

The victims were transported by Fire Department paramedics to area hospitals, where were both listed in stable condition. The victims' names are being withheld because of the nature of the attack, police said.

 police spokesman Mike Partain, a high level of gang activity in the area of the shooting, as well as witness reports, suggested to police the gunmen are gang members.

Police were trying to determine what led the attackers to open fire on the home of the couple, reported to be in their 40s and unaffiliated with street gangs, Partain said.

``When dealing with gang things, who knows? They could've been gunning for someone in particular, and this could've been the wrong residence. They could have been gunning for a friend, or neighbor, or family member of someone. At this point we don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

Preliminary interviews with the victims indicate the couple was in their residence when they were hit by bullets fired from outside.

The shooting occurred at 1:20 a.m. in the 7200 block of Beck Avenue, officials said.

The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History  in Mission Hills. The second was taken to the Medical Center of North Hollywood.
