For some 45 years, it was a regular feature in many newspapers across North America. Dear Ann Landers: For the past 10 years, my husband and I have been harassed by the Census Bureau Noun 1. Every other year, we have been contacted to take part in a 45-minute survey about our home. Do we have indoor plumbing plumbing, piping systems inside buildings for water supply and sewage. When we received a letter this year informing us of the upcoming survey, we decided not to participate. I called our lawyer and a citizens group and was told by both that it's strictly voluntary. After 10 years of participating, why don't they answer some of OUR questions? What is this information used for? Who has access to it? Why do they keep contacting us instead of someone new? Why weren't we told upfront that we'd be on their list for 10 years? Census Bureau , giving the details of the survey, and tell them you no longer wish to be a participant. Another word of caution: Make certain the person who claims to be a census taker is legitimate. A good clue to impaired driving ability is when you are no longer able to drive up to the speed limit.
