The 400-seat Forum Theatre at the Civic Arts Plaza will be renamed in honor of Janet and Ray Scherr after the Westlake Village couple donated $1 million to the Alliance for the Arts.

The Scherrs made the second-largest individual donation ever received by the alliance, which now needs less than $1 million more to reach its 1998 fund-raising goal of $15 million. Patricia Moore, executive director of the alliance, said she gave the Scherrs a tour of the Civic Arts Plaza earlier this month and pointed out features that major donors would be asked to name.

``By the time we walked back to my office, they had decided what they wanted,'' Moore said. ``I think they just liked it. They fell in love with it.''
