Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County will seek state grants to buy and preserve wetlands in southern Palmdale and to acquire a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail The Pacific Crest Trail (also known as the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail) is a long-distance mountain hiking and equestrian trail that runs from the United States border with Mexico to its border with Canada and follows the highest portion of the Sierra Nevada and  in Agua Dulce Agua Dulce is Spanish for "sweet water". .

The Board of Supervisors passed a resolution Tuesday to seek the money through the state's Habitat Conservation Fund Program. Officials want $350,000 for the wetlands project, but have not yet estimated how much they will need for the Pacific Crest Trail.

``The acquisition of the Antelope Valley wetlands maintains this vital area as perpetual open space,'' said Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich Michael Dennis Antonovich (born 1939 in Los Angeles, California) is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors representing the Fifth District, which covers northern Los Angeles County, the Antelope, Santa Clarita, Pasadena, and parts of the San Fernando and San .

County officials should hear this spring whether they will receive the money.

The wetlands is adjacent to the California Aqueduct near Avenue T-8 and 32nd Street East. The wetlands cover about 10 acres inside a 63-acre property that county officials would like to maintain as open space, said Jim Park, chief of planning for the county parks department.

The county also is looking to acquire 40 to 60 acres of private land that the Pacific Crest Trail crosses near Vasquez Rocks Park and the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley. . The idea is to ensure the trail's protection by putting the property in public hands.

McKeon is seeking the funds at the request of the Pacific Crest Trail Association, a 2,600-member organization whose volunteers improve the trail and provide information for hikers.

The Pacific Crest Trail runs from Mexico to Canada and was created by Congress in the National Trail Systems Act of 1968.
