COUNTY TO MARK ITS 150TH YEAR.Byline: Troy Anderson Staff Writer In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Los Angeles County's founding on Feb. 18, 1850, the county will put on on a parade and offer a weekend of free visits at county museums and gardens. County libraries also are waiving fees for all overdue books and other library materials returned to county libraries from Feb. 18 to March 5. ``The Board of Supervisors has not authorized an amnesty period for library materials since 1986, when more than 63,000 overdue items valued at $1.9 million were returned,'' Supervisor Gloria Molina said. The celebration honors a county that has grown in population from a small Spanish settlement in the 1780s to a city with the largest population in the country - 9.8 million residents. The celebration will begin Feb. 18 with open houses at the county's fire departments and libraries. On Feb. 19, people are invited to visit the county's three public gardens for free: the County Arboretum arboretum: see botanical garden. arboretum Place where trees, shrubs, and sometimes herbaceous plants are cultivated for scientific and educational purposes. An arboretum may be a collection in its own right or a part of a botanical garden. at 301 N. On Feb. 20, the four county museums will be open for free. The parade will start at 2 p.m. and will travel down Wilshire Boulevard between La Brea Avenue La Brea Avenue is a prominent north/south thoroughfare in Los Angeles. After Hawthorne Boulevard intersects with Century Boulevard in Inglewood, La Brea Avenue is formed. La Brea passes north through Windsor Hills, Baldwin Hills, and Ladera Heights. and Ogden Drive. After the parade, a free concert will be open to the public at Hancock Park. More than 30 countries will participate in the parade. ``We will have representatives from Austria, Morocco, the Netherlands, Mexico, South Africa, Thailand and many more countries, providing entertainment, ethnic foods and arts and crafts arts and crafts, term for that general field of applied design in which hand fabrication is dominant.
