COUNTY SEEKS STUDY ON BARRIERS FOR 138.

Highway 138's latest fatal crash has led the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is the five member governing board of Los Angeles County, California. ``Whatever recommendations they are seeking will be looked at very carefully and seriously,'' said Joe Brazile, a Caltrans spokesman. ``That's all I can say until we have a chance to read into its entirety as (to) what they want.''

The letter asks Caltrans to investigate installing center barriers at curves near Littlerock Creek, 106th Street East, Avenue V-8, 175th Street East and Avenue W, and at other locations where head-on crashes have occurred.

``I understand what the board may have in mind but the feasibility is the question,'' said Brazile. ``There's not much room for a barrier.''

The motion comes 10 days after a four-vehicle crash killed a Valyermo man, Duane Gross, and a Lancaster couple, Keith and Teresa Stein, and orphaned or·phan

Just the week before, Caltrans announced the beginning of an environmental study into widening the highway, in hopes of reducing crashes like the one that killed Gross and the Steins.
