Pederson said he supports ``responsible growth'' in the area. ``I have lived or worked out here since 1954, so I have seen the area change and I know its history,'' Pederson said. ``I certainly believe that I will be in a position of cooperation with the city of Santa Clarita on issues that affect the city and the county.'' He said he would want to focus on air and water quality while on the Planning Commission, which guides long-range development of the county's unincorporated areas. ``What I would like to see is the area develop very slowly with a great amount of attention given to the details of the environment,'' Pederson said. ``I think I would be very careful to the kind of approval that would be given to projects out here.''
