COUNTY ORDERS MANAGERS TO REPORT ALL STIPENDS.

Concerned that some Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County managers supplement their salaries through stipends or money from outside agencies, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to order all these employees to immediately report the pay to the personnel director.

The supervisors also decided that they must formally approve all existing and future stipends for the county's 90,000 employees.

 their existing county salaries,'' Supervisor Gloria Molina Gloria Molina is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and the current chairwoman of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.[1] Molina grew up as one of ten children in the Los Angeles suburb of Pico Rivera, California, U.S.  said. ``In some instances, these arrangements were made by county department heads. I believe that the current county salary levels are sufficient and appropriate for most county managers.

``I also believe that, except for those museum employees whose supplemental salaries are covered under (county codes), any means to subsidize the county compensation level for a manager by an outside agency should be revealed and understood prior to such benefit being enacted, and formerly approved by the Board of Supervisors.''

Molina raised the issue after learning that Dr. Jonathan E. Fielding, the new director of Public Health had been collecting a $100,000-a-year consulting stipend sti·pend

Fielding had been paid $185,576 a year as the county's public health officer, which he has served as since 1998.

On Tuesday, the supervisors voted 3-2 to approve an annual salary of $260,000 for Fielding in his new role as head of the Department of Public Health. He'll become the second-highest-paid county official behind only Bruce Chernof, who as the director of Health Services health services Managed care The benefits covered under a health contract  earns about $295,000.

Molina and Supervisor Don Knabe Donald R. Knabe (born October 15, 1943 in Illinois) is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, serving the Fourth District, a crescent shaped district that covers the coastline from Marina Del Rey southward to Long Beach, and southeastern Los Angeles County to  voted against Fielding's raise.

The supervisors voted earlier this year to create the separate public health agency to focus on disease control and bioterrorism prevention.
