The arts are alive and well in Los Angeles County. And free - at least on Saturday.

As part of the L.A. Arts Open House, now in its eighth year, more than 150 arts events will be held for the public in celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month. Many of the events take place in the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.
, including on the campus of California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an .

CSUN's list of events is endless, including traditional Bolivian dances, sacred Buddhist music and the pinstriped works of the late, cultural legend Von Dutch.

At Calabasas' Leonis Adobe Museum, art patrons can experience life before strip malls with an exhibit of costumes worn by area settlers in the 18th and 19th centuries. Canoga Park's Madrid Theatre sets the life of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo to dance, while Glendale's Alex Theatre turns the spotlight on school- and community-based youth performing-arts groups.
