An attempt by the system's vendor to correct a software deficiency inadvertently labeled Medi-Cal accounts as billed when they actually had not been billed, officials said. The error was discovered after the one-year period allowed for submission of claims, and the state Medi-Cal program denied payment. The county filed two lawsuits with claims totaling $25.3 million, but the county's attorneys say a trial would be costly and would consume considerable staff time yet still could result in the county recovering even less than $10.5 million. |
