COUNTY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP: COBURN BEATS WILLIAMSON ON SECOND PLAYOFF HOLE TO WIN TITLE.

Jeff Coburn, a 17-year-old from Ojai, won the Ventura City Golf Championship on Sunday, beating Sam Williamson on the second playoff play·off also play-off

Coburn and Williamson finished the 36-hole event tied at 147. Each played 18 holes at Buenaventura on Saturday and 18 at Olivas Park on Sunday.

George Gankos finished third at 149, followed by a four-way tie for fourth among Tim Wren wren, small, plump perching songbird of the family Troglodytidae. There were four flights contested in the tournament. The top two flights, called the championship and president, played Saturday at Buenaventura and Sunday at Olivas Park. The other two flights, secretary and treasurer, played opposite.

The championship score was based on gross shots, while the other flights used handicaps to determine the winner.

 won the president flight with a net score of 137, six strokes better than the four who tied for second: Doug Sorrow, Scott Solmon, Ruben Munoz and Luis Martinez.

In the secretary flight, Robert Fletcher's 135 was good enough to beat Andy Hanchett by two strokes. Next came Larry Barker barker
