COUNTY GETS A GOOD SOAKING.

The first fall rains Monday contributed to dozens of minor vehicle crashes on Ventura County highways and sent streams of water through arroyos, but no serious injuries or flooding were reported.

Rain began falling across much of the county between 6 and 7 a.m. and continued heavy at times throughout the day. Rainfall totals by late afternoon ranged from 1.14 inches in Ojai to 0.20 inch at Silver Strand Beach Silverstrand Beach is an isolated beach neighborhood located in the city of Oxnard, California. It is bounded on the south/southwest by the Pacific Ocean and the waters of the Channel Islands Harbor; on the east by the United States Navy Base at Port Hueneme and on the north by  in Oxnard, said Robin Jester, an engineer with the Ventura County Flood Control District.

Jester said the rains were the first of the rainfall year that began Oct. 1 and will continue through September.

``We're supposed to have an intermittent chance for rainstorms until sometime Sunday,'' she said.
