How can the county suggest that tax rates are equitable, based on the past experience of local landscape maintenance districts, where it took a county charter amendment to make a tax cut possible, and then a campaign to get county staff to implement it? All the propaganda about enjoying the ``best of both worlds'' and ``maintaining a rural lifestyle,'' as the county's brochure claims, cannot hide the fact that the county provides no services free of charge, that the formation of the city of Santa Clarita has proven the worth and viability of city government and that, in Santa Clarita, where one council election was decided by 16 votes, each person's vote really counts. |
