COUNTY, CITY PLAN NEW FIRE STATIONS COUNCIL VOTES MONDAY ON 2 PALMDALE FACILITIES.Byline: Jim Skeen Staff Writer PALMDALE - A proposed agreement between Palmdale and Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. County calls for building long-awaited fire stations in east and west Palmdale. Under the agreement that comes Monday before the City Council, Palmdale will contribute $130,000 more toward road work and utility lines to support the stations. The city has already contributed $607,000 toward the projects. Station 93 is to be built at 55th Street East and Avenue R, next to Domenic Massari Park; Station 136 will be built near Town Center Drive and Bolz Ranch ranch, large farm devoted chiefly to raising and breeding cattle, horses, sheep, and goats. The cost of the stations won't be known until bids are received, but they will cost roughly $4 million each. About 24 percent of Station 93 and 29 percent of Station 136 will be paid for through a public safety fund set up by the city's redevelopment agency in 1993. Under the proposed agreement, construction would start 14 months after the agreement is approved by both the county and the city. Recently the talks have focused on whether the county could establish interim stations versus permanent structures.
