Now that the City Council has signed off on development plans, the loan giant expects to purchase a Madera Road warehouse and renovate it into an office building for new employees.

The national home finance corporation will use its new space to expand loan service operations, bringing its local work force to more than 3,300.

From mail room clerks and administrative assistants to loan processors and insurance auditors, the home loan corporation - and a sister company, Countrywide Insurance Services - is expecting a range of jobs for the new offices.

The new building, adjacent to existing corporate offices at Madera Road and the Ronald Reagan Freeway, is expected to double the office space with a two-story complex that should be complete within nine months.

Once construction is finished, the company plans to begin bringing on new employees, hoping to fill the estimated 1,000 jobs within two years. Currently, there are about 125 jobs open at the local office.

The Calabasas-based firm, which won approval for its development plan at the council meeting Monday, is among the nation's largest home mortgage companies, with more than 450 branches and 9,000 employees nationwide.
