 Home Loans will build a second Lancaster office building that will let its local work force grow to 1,400 employees, officials announced Tuesday.

The $11 million, 102,000-square-foot office complex will go up next to the existing loan-service center in the Lancaster Business Park. Construction is expected to begin in April and be completed in October.

Countrywide employs more than 500 people at its Lancaster loan-service center, a 101,000-square-foot building that opened last year. There is room in that building for approximately 200 to 300 more workers.

The company does not have a timetable for how quickly the new building will be filled, officials said.

The new building will be two stories tall and contain a cafeteria cafeteria: see restaurant.  and a fitness center for employees.

Like the first building, the second building will be developed by Lancaster businessman Frank Visco.

Countrywide Home Loans, based in Calabasas, is the largest subsidiary of Countrywide Credit Industries, which has some 23,000 employees. Countrywide Home Loans is a mortgage-banking company that originates, sells and services home loans.

No city assistance, other than expediting permits, is being offered for the construction of the new building.
