COUNTDOWN TO THE ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS 2003: Why should we vote for you? LIB-DEM.

THE Welsh Liberal Democrats are ambitious for Wales. We have a manifesto of 300 fully costed commitments. A vote for the Welsh Liberal Democrats is a vote for an effective and efficient Assembly Government that delivers for the people of Wales.

The Welsh Liberal Democrats, by going into partnership government with Labour, gave the Assembly stability and a real programme of government.

Many believe the Assembly has done little for the people of Wales.

But just look at the list of achievements of the Mike German's Welsh Lib Dems, in partnership with Labour.

We brought in free school milk for all infants, improving their health and helping the dairy industry.

We re-introduced student grants, targeted at helping the poorest students.

Smaller class sizes for primary schools were also our idea.

For its first 18 months the Assembly achieved very little.

But with the Welsh Lib Dems, the Assembly delivered free prescriptions for under-25s and we froze prescription charges for everyone else. In Wales you get free dental check-ups for under-25s and over 60s and free eye examinations for at-risk groups.

For education, we invested pounds 300million over three years for school buildings.

For health, we brought in more training places for doctors and nurses.

But this is not enough to restore the Welsh NHS to the capacity it had before 18 years of the Conservatives.

The Welsh Lib Dems want to recruit 8,000 extra doctors, nurses and clinical staff.

The Welsh Lib Dems have been the driving force of the Assembly.

We want to carry on delivering real and radical improvements for the Welsh people.

A vote for the Welsh Liberal Democrats is a vote for an effective Welsh Assembly.

We want to continue delivering the difference.

We have over 300 fully costed commitments in our manifesto, all based on the values of creating opportunity, building community and attacking poverty.

A Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Government will further extend free personal care for the elderly.

Older people are among the most vulnerable in our society. We owe them the best care we can afford.

A Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Government will continue to tackle class sizes so that none of our children has to learn and no teacher teach in a class larger than 25.

A Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Government will extend free entry to sports centres for young people under 16. Sport can raise the spirits of our children.

It can provide a community focus for them and teach them valuable lessons such as promoting a healthy drug-free, crime-free lifestyle.

What is good enough for Scotland should be good enough for Wales.

The Welsh Liberal Democrats want the Assembly to have powers like the Scottish Parliament - powers it needs to fulfil the wishes of people throughout Wales.

It's your choice. On May 1, we want you to vote for the Welsh Liberal Democrats.

But above all we want you to vote.

Wales has benefited from the Assembly and only with a strong, democratic and representative Assembly can we go on delivering for the people of Wales.
