COUNCILMAN ARRESTED; HERNANDEZ FOCUS OF DRUG PROBE.

The 44-year-old councilman, who represents an east-side district, has been in office since 1991.

Hernandez is a former bond agent and emerged as a consensus candidate with endorsements from many Latino officeholders, including Councilman Richard Alatorre Richard Alatorre is a politician, and a member of the Democratic Party. Alatorre has served as a member of the Los Angeles City Council. He was the first Latino to serve on the council in 23 years.  and Molina.

During the campaign, Hernandez stressed his involvement in community affairs.

In 1974 he was a student community relations commissioner at Occidental College.

His first try for public office was in 1986, when he made an unsuccessful run for the state Assembly.
