COUNCILMAN ACCEPTS POST TO BRING JOBS TO VALLEYS.

Palmdale City Councilman David Myers is now the regional manager for the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Economic Development Corporation, working to bring jobs into the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  and Antelope valleys.

In his new post, Myers will be working with the Greater Antelope Valley Economic Alliance and Santa Clarita officials to draw new companies to the region and to help existing companies looking to expand their operations.

Myers also will be working to assist Antelope Valley leaders in their efforts to attract jobs from the Joint Strike Fighter Program The Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) became synonymous with the later F-35 Lightning II, however until 2001 the term was applied to the competition between the Boeing X-32 and Lockheed Martin X-35. .

``This continues the nonprofit work I've been doing. I'm working closer to home, and I'm doing something I love - promoting north Los Angeles County,'' Myers said.

Myers took the full-time position Monday. He will be splitting his time between offices in the Antelope and Santa Clarita valleys.

Myers, a two-term city councilman, opted not to run for re-election in the coming November election, citing his desire to focus on his career. Myers had been doing consulting work for nonprofit organizations prior to accepting the job as regional manager for the Economic Development Corporation.

Myers has spent 17 years with government and nonprofit public service agencies. He previously was executive director of Leadership Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, , which provided training for government and business managers, and was the executive director for the Pomona Valley The Pomona Valley, adjacent to the Inland Empire and San Gabriel Valley in California, straddles the border between Los Angeles County and San Bernardino County. Some residents consider the Pomona Valley to be a unique geographical area, independent of both.  Habitat for Humanity Habitat for Humanity, nonprofit ecumenical Christian organization that enables low-income people to own affordable, livable housing. Headquartered in Americus, Ga., it was founded in 1976 by businessman Millard Fuller and his wife. .

Myers also worked as the business manager for the Palmdale Water District.

Myers said his immediate work will be focused on a number of companies that have expressed an interest in relocating to the region. There are also several companies in the Santa Clarita Valley area that are looking to expand.

 to take another look at performing work on the Joint Strike Fighter Program in Palmdale. The two companies are competing for the contract to produce the aircraft.

Counting production and subsequent modification and maintenance work, the program has the potential to reach $750 billion in revenue and to create as many as 10,000 production jobs and 40,000 subcontractor jobs.
