The council has indicated previous interest in a trolley system that would connect stores, restaurants, movie theaters and parking in downtown Glendale Glendale.

The results would help the city determine whether to continue moving forward.

``This is very important because you need to know what the cost of maintenance is, whether it's feasible, the locations of stations, where the routes are,'' Councilman Bob Yousefian said. ``We have to take the steps to get this thing going.''

If the contract is approved, the study is expected to be completed in December.

City officials already have done some preliminary research, but said that when they began lobbying for federal funds for the project it became clear a more formal study would be needed.

``This is going to be a study that will help us when we're going to ask for state or federal funds because they really want to see a detailed analysis of whether or not a system of this type will be appropriate in Glendale,'' said Jano Baghdanian, traffic transportation administrator.
