COUNCIL VOTE REGISTRATION DEADLINE NEARS.

Byline: Daily News

Santa Clarita residents who wish to vote in the April 11 City Council election must be registered by March 13. To register, voters must be U.S. citizens, California residents and at least 18.

They cannot be in prison or on parole for felony convictions, and they cannot have been judged by a court to be mentally incompetent to register to vote. To obtain a voter registration form, residents may visit the city of Santa Clarita's Web site at www.santa-clarita.com or call (800) 345-8683. Forms are also available at any local library or fire station, or at City Hall, 23920 Valencia Blvd.

A pre-Super Bowl Sunday brunch and silent auction to benefit the No On Knight campaign to help defeat Proposition 22 will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the home of Tom DiCioccio, 24104 Tossano Drive in Valencia. Call (661) 254-3827 or (661) 296-9121 to RSVP.

Santa Clarita City Council candidate Joe Nocella said he will pledge part of the stipend that he would receive as a council member to local charities. Council members are paid close to $1,000 a month. Nocella said he would make monthly donations.

U.S. Rep. Howard ``Buck'' McKeon has endorsed council candidate Cameron Smyth. McKeon, who said he is a friend of Smyth's family, praised his ability to work with others in accomplishing goals.
