COUNCIL CALLS LAST-MINUTE ENDORSEMENT 'AN OVERSIGHT'.

Just in time for election day - but leaving little time to influence voters - the Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  decided Tuesday to support Proposition 41, the $200 million statewide ballot measure to modernize mod·ern·ize

 voting procedures throughout California.

The council motion to support the measure was introduced nearly two months ago on Jan. 11, and was referred to the council's Rules, Elections and Intergovernmental Relations Committee on Jan. 14. But it wasn't referred to the full council until Feb. 27, according to according to

A spokesman for council President Alex Padilla Alex Padilla is a politician in California. He was elected as the State Senator for the 20th District of California in November 2006 and was inaugurated in early December. In order to enter the Senate he had to resign as Councilman for the 7th District on the Los Angeles City , who also chairs the rules committee, acknowledged the item should have been brought forward prior to election day but also noted the measure was relatively noncontroversial.

``It was just an oversight on our part,'' said Padilla aide David Gershwin. ``We're glad it wasn't something more substantive.''
