COUNCIL APPROVES PARK PROPOSALS.

The council also approved $5.6 million from the Proposition K bonds to buy open space in Deervale and Runyon canyons.

The funding for the arts center in Canoga Park will go toward the purchase of the former Pacific Bell building at the intersection of Remmet Street and Sherman Way while an additional $1.5 million will be considered for next year to complete work on the project.

``We need a dedicated center that provides a place for young people to be exposed to and learn about arts and culture,'' she said. ``This will be a hands-on center for kids.''
