Cotton-Stuart was among 50 African-American high school students recognized during the Ronald McDonald House Charities/African-American Future Achievers luncheon, where each winner was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to help offset higher education higher education

News anchor Christine Devine of KTTV (Channel 11) served as master of ceremonies and former talk show host Rolonda Watts delivered the keynote address.

``McDonald's is proud to contribute toward the academic goals of these exceptional students,'' said Patricia Williams, a Los Angeles McDonald's owner/operator and program chairwoman. ``I'm confident that each of the recipients has the power and determination to achieve their dreams, and will continue to give back to their communities.''

Winners were selected to receive the scholarship based on their demonstrated leadership skills and academic standing, in addition to the strength of their high school transcript, letter of recommendation and an essay detailing their commitment to making a difference in the community.
