COSMOS(TM) today announced that its COSMOSDesignSTAR(TM) software product can now analyze designs created in Solid Edge(R) Version 15 and Autodesk(R) Inventor Version 8 -- the latest releases of those computer aided design (application) Computer Aided Design - (CAD) The part of CAE concerning the drawing or physical layout steps of engineering design. Often found in the phrase "CAD/CAM" for ".. manufacturing".  (CAD) programs, as well as CATIA A family of 2D and 3D CAD programs from IBM. CATIA was one of the first CAD programs to provide 3D solid modeling. The program was developed by Dassault Systems, a French aerospace company. (R) Version 5, Revision 11.

COSMOSDesignSTAR makes it possible for engineers who use Solid Edge and Autodesk Inventor Autodesk Inventor is the 3D parametric solid modeling package produced by U.S.-based software company Autodesk. It competes with other CAD systems such as SolidWorks, Pro/ENGINEER, and Solid Edge.  to perform analyses with full associativity, thus maximizing their productivity throughout the design cycle. It can also read CATIA files directly to enable fast analysis.

Equipped with meshing tools that automatically reduce element size in cases where a first pass fails to mesh, COSMOSDesignSTAR offers users a number of ways to refine the mesh, along with a diagnostic tool that identifies problems in the geometry of the model. The program provides a number of nonlinear analysis capabilities, and uses tools such as commonly used joints between parts -- both rigid and elastic -- to help users perform non linear analyses quickly on many different kinds of assemblies.

COSMOSDesignSTAR helps design engineers and expert analysts alike detect potential design problems quickly and correct them before beginning prototype production, saving companies the time and expense of post-production fixes. By conducting multiple "what if" studies, design engineers can determine the reliability of their designs quickly, shorten design review cycles, and reduce the number of physical prototypes that need to be tested. COSMOSDesignSTAR is currently in use in some 2,000 companies.
