COSMOS(TM) analysis software increased productivity for 100 percent of the customers responding to a recent return on investment (ROI) study by a Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management researcher, COSMOS announced today. Survey respondents In the context of marketing research, a representative sample drawn from a larger population of people from whom information is collected and used to develop or confirm marketing strategy.  cited sharp product quality gains that reduced field failures and product recalls, as COSMOS' primary contribution to productivity.

The study surveyed thousands of current COSMOS users via Web-based questionnaires; several hundred companies responded. Companies in industries ranging from aerospace to consumer products use COSMOS, the SolidWorks Corporation's family of analytical analytical, analytic

The productivity gains COSMOS customers reported were realized through higher overall product quality; avoiding failures and product recalls; reduced time-to-market; reduced numbers of prototypes, and fewer physical tests. The survey found that 67 percent of users attributed improved product quality to COSMOS. More than 59 percent of respondents said they were able to avoid field failures by using COSMOS, 56 percent used fewer prototypes, and 15 percent of respondents indicated that they were able to avoid product recalls completely.

The companies surveyed used COSMOS primarily in the early stages of development to assess designs. Other popular uses include checking designs in progress; testing new products developed from existing product lines; "last check" analysis before final testing, and evaluating product failures in the field. The majority of respondents - 96 percent - used COSMOS for stress analysis. Many also used it for thermal, motion, and fluid flow analysis.

The survey also found that users didn't have to wait long to realize COSMOS' benefits. It took an average of just 10 days to become proficient pro·fi·cient

"Analysis software is proving its value every day in demanding settings," said Suchit Jain, vice president of analysis products for SolidWorks Corporation. "This survey helps dispel the old attitudes that analysis software is too complex and time consuming. Our customers said it best: it's easy to use and shows almost immediate return on investment through better quality and higher productivity."
