SANDIA RED STORM SELECTS ETNUS TOTALVIEW DEBUGGER

Etnus, the world's leading provider of debugging solutions for complex code, today announced that Cray, Inc. and Etnus have signed a contract to provide Etnus TotalView(R) for the ASCI Sandia Red Storm massively parallel computer system.

In 1998 TotalView was chosen as the sole debugger for the ASCI program, establishing a continuing relationship that has resulted in the development of numerous advances in debugging technology and has raised the state of the art in development tools for extremely complex applications. TotalView's advanced features make it possible for Department of Energy scientists to write and implement highly specialized and complex models. These applications scale to thousands of processors using programming models such as MPI and OpenMP. TotalView scales right beside these applications and supports the programming models in use. With advanced features like support for mixed MPI and OpenMP code, visualization of message queues to provide insight into inter-process communication, and flexibility to control each program uniquely, DOE users find that no other debugger meets their requirements.

Red Storm will have a theoretical peak performance of 40 trillion calculations per second (teraOPS). Expected to be operational in fiscal year 2004, it will use the upcoming Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NYSE:AMD) Opteron(TM) processors. This system is expected to be at least seven times more powerful than Sandia's current ASCI Red supercomputer. ASCI Red was the first supercomputer delivered under the ASCI program and there began a long relationship between ASCI labs and Etnus.
