NATICK, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 4, 2003

In BW5320, (MA-ETNUS) Sandia Red Storm Selects Etnus TotalView Debugger, first graph should read xxx Cray, Inc. (sted Sandia National Labs).

The corrected release reads:

SANDIA RED STORM SELECTS ETNUS TOTALVIEW DEBUGGER

Etnus, the world's leading provider of debugging solutions for complex code, today announced that Cray, Inc. and Etnus have signed a contract to provide Etnus TotalView(R) for the ASCI ASCI American Society for Clinical Investigation.  Sandia Red Storm massively parallel See MPP.  computer system.

In 1998 TotalView was chosen as the sole debugger for the ASCI program, establishing a continuing relationship that has resulted in the development of numerous advances in debugging technology and has raised the state of the art in development tools for extremely complex applications. TotalView's advanced features make it possible for Department of Energy scientists to write and implement highly specialized and complex models. These applications scale to thousands of processors using programming models such as MPI MPI - Message Passing Interface  and OpenMP. TotalView scales right beside these applications and supports the programming models in use. With advanced features like support for mixed MPI and OpenMP code, visualization of message queues to provide insight into inter-process communication (programming, operating system) Inter-process Communication - (IPC) Exchange of data between one process and another, either within the same computer or over a network. It implies a protocol that guarantees a response to a request. , and flexibility to control each program uniquely, DOE users find that no other debugger meets their requirements.

Red Storm will have a theoretical peak performance of 40 trillion calculations per second (teraOPS). Expected to be operational in fiscal year 2004, it will use the upcoming Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NYSE NYSE

This system is expected to be at least seven times more powerful than Sandia's current ASCI Red supercomputer. ASCI Red was the first supercomputer delivered under the ASCI program and there began a long relationship between ASCI labs and Etnus.

"I'm delighted that we now will support all 3 labs largest machines and all their environments: AIX (Advanced Interactive eXecutive) IBM's Unix-based operating system which runs on its Intellistation workstations and pSeries, p5, iSeries and i5 server families. , Tru64, and Linux," states Rich Collier, VP of Engineering at Etnus. "We have met the challenging software engineering requirements of the ASCI program. We're confident that TotalView will provide the same superior development experience to users at Sandia that other areas of the ASCI program have enjoyed. We're looking forward to meeting the challenges of the Sandia RedStorm machine's scale and operating system complexity."

About Etnus

Etnus is the world's leading provider of debugging and analysis solutions for complex code. Etnus products provide software engineers with the ability to visualize, control and correct complex applications running on a wide variety of platforms and using one to thousands of processors. They offer significant productivity gains in application development, helping to eliminate the frustration, delays, and headaches inherent in analyzing multi-process, multi-thread, and network-distributed applications containing many lines of code The statements and instructions that a programmer writes when creating a program. One line of this "source code" may generate one machine instruction or several depending on the programming language. A line of code in assembly language is typically turned into one machine instruction.  or advanced programming techniques such as MPI, threads, and OpenMP.

Etnus products are used in the development of applications in industries such as weather prediction, film special effects and animation, oil and gas exploration, CAD/CAM CAD/CAM
