In an effort to raise funds for the Tsunami Relief Efforts, CBL & Associates Properties, Inc. will hold a fundraising collection drive at all of their managed malls across the country on Saturday, January 29.

"The plight of those suffering from this tragedy is immeasurable and we would like to pull out all of the stops to raise as much money as possible for victims of this disaster," said Stephen Lebovitz, president of CBL & Associates Properties, Inc. "All of us have watched in horror the news reports of death and destruction from the recent Tsunami through India, Thailand and Indonesia. The magnitude of loss and destruction is incomprehensible. President Bush has pledged over $350 million to aid the countries affected by this disaster and is also calling on all Americans to donate what they can to assist in this effort. We at CBL & Associates Properties want to do our part as well."

During the fundraising collection drive at each mall on Saturday, January 29, local groups such as the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, United Way and other selected charities (a complete list can be found on www.usafreedomcorps.gov) have been invited to man collection stations. Mall shoppers are encouraged to make monetary contributions. All contributions are tax deductible. Those interested in financial donations to the American Red Cross can also visit each mall's website or www.cblproperties.com to make a contribution.

According to news reports, the most effective way that people can assist relief efforts is by making cash contributions to humanitarian organizations that are conducting relief operations. Monetary donations will aid professionals in procuring the exact items needed by the affected region; reduce the burden on scarce resources (such as transportation, staff time, warehouse space, etc.); support the local economy of the disaster-stricken region; and ensure culturally, dietary and environmentally appropriate assistance.

Lebovitz added, "Approximately half of those lost in this tragedy are reported to be under the age of 15. The children who survived are at grave risk of dysentery and other debilitating yet preventable diseases. Given this, as well as the ongoing need to offer support to the children of this disaster, we are also encouraging our mall teams to raise funds for the Save the Children organization. This nonprofit organization has already taken an active role in the areas affected by providing water, shelter and medical supplies to both children and their families as well as offering programs to address the long-term impact of this disaster."
