ADVISORY/Fireman's Fund Insurance Company and Clear Channel Radio
Stations Announce Countywide ``Call to Action'' to Support Fire
Departments
San Diego Residents Can Raise Money for Area Firefighters
Through a Web-based Voting Process
WHAT: Fireman's Fund Insurance Company (FFIC) and Clear
Channel radio will kick-off Fire Prevention Month with
a "Call to Action" to the citizens of San Diego to
support their local fire departments.
Through the Fireman's Fund Heritage(SM) program, which
supports firefighters for safer communities, and this
"Call to Action," FFIC will donate a total of $50,000
to five fire departments in San Diego County.
During the entire month of October, FFIC is urging
county residents to go online to their favorite Clear
Channel radio station's Web site and vote to decide
which departments should receive a donation. Two
volunteer and three paid departments with the most
votes will receive $10,000 each to fund equipment,
firefighter training and fire prevention activities.
By listening to their favorite Clear Channel radio
stations, residents will hear regular updates on the
vote and other fire safety and prevention information.

WHY: Firefighters and rescue workers across the country face
an increased demand on their services as a result of
population growth and new threats. Yet, despite the
increased demand fire departments face serious funding
challenges, leaving many volunteer and paid fire
departments without the resources for adequate
equipment or training. In San Diego, the wildfires of
2003 were a clear indicator of the increased fire
safety and prevention needs.
In April, FFIC committed $1 million to fire
departments, and safety and prevention programs in San
Diego County. The company will reach the $1 million
milestone this Fall through the Clear Channel "Call to
Action" donations and a second round of grants to fire
departments in the County.
