Noting that she was edged out by Carney by 97 votes, Corrales said the City Council should appoint her to fill the seat when they meet tonight. ``I've heard from a lot of people who didn't vote for me who said the council should vote for me,'' Corrales said. ``It's the will of the people the council should be listening to.''

The City Council is scheduled to decided tonight how to replace Carney, who resigned Jan. 8 to devote his energy towards his legal defense. Three of the remaining council members have indicated that they are leaning towards holding an election to fill the post.

Joining Corrales in calling for her appointment to the council were Robert Alvarado, president of the Democratic Club of the High Desert; Sergio Ramos For other persons named Ramos, see Ramos (disambiguation).

Corrales said that leaving the seat vacant until the next available election date, which is the Nov. 7 presidential election, is not wise, noting a couple of issues a 4-member City Council had to grapple with to enter into contest with, resolutely and courageously.

Among those issues was an apartment construction moratorium that was passed after the City Council exempted a controversial eastside project. That exemption was granted when it became clear Councilman Joe Davies was not willing to vote to block the project, fearing a lawsuit.

Judge resigned in February to avoid any potential conflicts of interest when it became apparent he was in line to be promoted to commander of the Palmdale sheriff's station.
