CORPTECH TO PROVIDE THE NEW ENGLAND COUNCIL A TECHNOLOGY COMPANY INFO DATABASE TO FIND JOBS

WOBURN, Mass, July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- CorpTech has provided The New England Council in-depth information on 35,000 U.S. high-technology companies to give New England companies access to information from commercial, federal and state governments, and university labs. CorpTech is the premier provider of in-depth information on high- technology manufacturers nationally. The software to make this possible was developed at the University of Massachusetts (UMASS) at Amherst through their National Center for Intelligent Information Retrieval (CIIR), and the Applied Computing Systems Institute of Massachusetts, Inc. (ACSIOM). "This is the first substantial effort to join public and private data to create the region's first technology information infrastructure directed at using technology to create jobs and new business opportunities," according to Steve Caldwell, vice president at Woburn, Mass., based CorpTech.
"CorpTech is pleased to be part of this innovative program to enable New England companies to take advantage of information in this highly competitive information-driven world," said Caldwell. This capability will allow companies easy access to information on technology sources and partners to react to the changing business environment. "By providing access to the CorpTech database of high tech companies and their areas of expertise, it will be possible to take advantage of breakthroughs in information retrieval and extraction on free text that is being developed by CIIR at UMASS to find answers to real business problems," Caldwell added.
"ACSIOM, as the official technology transfer and licensing agent for software technology developed at UMASS by CIIR, has already spun off a number of private start-up companies," according to its president, W. Richards Adrion. "We think the work that is underway here in Amherst, with Dr. Bruce Croft's team of software developers, will revolutionize the way large amounts of data are accessed for business development, marketing and general research purposes. The CorpTech database and vocabulary on high technology makes the New England Council's Strategic Alliance to Restore Jobs (STAR JOBS) searching practical."
The partners in the STAR JOBS program, which is coordinated by the New England Council, includes the Governors' Offices of the six New England states, the CIIR, ACSIOM, and the Environmental Business Council. According to Larry Zabar at the New England Council: "This project is distinguished by the most advanced technology in the world for text-based retrieval and analysis. Its broad reach and pervasive impact on economic competitiveness could change the way companies gather information on products, markets and competitors for worldwide competition."
