Beverly to unload Florida properties for $165M

Beverly Enterprises Inc. has signed a definitive agreement to sell 49 skilled nursing facilities and four assisted living properties in Florida to NMC of Florida LLC for $165 million in cash. The sale, subject to state approval, is expected to be completed later this year. Beverly will use the proceeds to pay off approximately $94 million in debts. The Fort Smith, Ark.-based company plans to sell its one remaining Florida nursing home in a separate transaction.

NMC of Florida, an affiliate of Vantage Medical Inc. and Formation Capital LLC, was reportedly established for the purpose of buying the Beverly properties. According to Beverly, the buyer will select operators for the facilities.

HealthStream kicks off e-learning strategy for LTC 

HealthStream, a Nashville, Tenn.-based supplier of e-learning solutions for the health care industry, has launched a strategy for meeting the education and training requirements for personnel working in long term care facilities. The curriculum offers 25 courses, including Resident Lifting and Handling, Fall Prevention Training, and Resident Abuse.

Among HealthStream's first long term care customers are Harborside Healthcare, a chain of 50 long term care facilities; PANPHA, an association of non-profit senior services; and Kendal Corp., which operates five CCRCs.

Philip W. Small has been named interim CFO for Fort Smith, Ark.-based Beverly Enterprises Inc.

Richard Austin has been named senior vice president, sales and business development, of Coordinated Care Solutions Inc. of Coral Springs, Fin.

Samantha Kay Hollister has been promoted to southeast Florida regional director of operations of Seattle-based Merrill Gardens.

Geoffrey Marsh has been promoted to president of Briggs Corporation's Horizon Healthcare Technologies in St. Louis.
