CORPORAL `A FISH IN WATER' WHEN IT COMES TO MILITARY TACTICS.

Marine Cpl. Mark Anthony Sarmiento, 22, is with the 1st Battalion 2nd Marines or Task Force Tarawa Task Force Tarawa (TFT) was the name given to the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. They were a Marine Air Ground Task Force commanded by Brigadier General Richard Natonski[1]  from Camp Lejeune Camp LeJeune (ləzhn`), U.S. marine corps base, 82,969 acres (33,576 hectares), SE N.C., SE of Jacksonville; est. 1941. , the men and women who have been under fire in An Nasiriyah An Nasiriyah (än näsĭrĭ`yä), city (1987 pop. 265,937), provincial capital, SE Iraq, on the Euphrates River. It is the center of a date-growing region. Founded in 1870, the city was captured by the British in 1915.  in Southern Iraq.

Born in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , Sarmiento joined the Marines in the summer of 2000. His wife, Hannah, six months pregnant with their first child, is home in Canyon Country with her father. Sarmiento's family is spread about - his brother is in the Hollywood area, his sister in Las Vegas Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States. .

Sarmiento left for the Persian Gulf on Jan. 11, after the couple spent the Christmas holidays with family. He is a squad leader, with about 20 men reporting to him.

At home, Hannah Sarmiento writes to her husband daily and watches the news nearly every waking hour. She had been receiving mail from him almost daily, but hasn't talked to him since President George W. Bush's March 17 deadline for Saddam Hussein to leave Iraq.

``He tells me what it's like in Kuwait and how he misses me and what he wants to do when he gets back,'' she said. ``I send him pictures of me. I'm getting bigger every day.'' He is brilliant in the field of military tactics, his wife said. ``With military tactics, he's a fish in water. He's so good and that gives me piece of mind. He knows how to do his job.''
