O'Dwyer's early goal had given Tipp a cushion, but Cork went in leading 1-7 to 1-6 after Jamie Coughlan netted in the 23rd minute. Another goal by Eoin O'Sullivan and a point from Paul Haughney point gave Cork a five-point lead. In the 44th minute Brian Stapleton inspired Tipp by making it 2-8 to 2-6. Tipp forged two ahead and though Cork did cancel out Verb 1. cancel out - wipe out the effect of something; "The new tax effectively cancels out my raise"; "The `A' will cancel out the `C' on your record" wipe out that, three late points looked to have given them the win before Cork sub Hartnett made it 3-12 to 215 in the 64th minute. Tipp pulled ahead again in extra time when David Collins raised a third green flag and when David Collins followed that with another, they looked sure of the win until the late drama.
