COREL ANNOUNCES CORELRAID - THE SOFTWARE SOLUTION FOR DATA SECURITY

CHICAGO, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Corel Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: COSFF) formally announced their entrance into the high growth marketplace of RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) technology with CorelRAID, the company's software-based solution for data security on Novell file servers. Shipping in April, CorelRAID allows users to customize multiple hard disk systems that act as a single volume, providing an affordable solution to maximizing data security.
"Entering the RAID marketplace is a logical progression for Corel," said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and CEO of Corel Corporation. "With CorelRAID, we are responding to a marketplace that demands data integrity and security with open architecture, so users can combine their choice of SCSI drives and host adapters. Corel's well established reputation and expertise in SCSI data storage and technology allows us to develop and implement a solution that delivers all of these requirements."
"Previous to CorelRAID, solutions involved inflexible and expensive proprietary hardware. At only a fraction of the price, Corel now provides users the ability to customize their own RAID solutions, and benefit from features unique to Corel's solution including hot swapping and hot standby support making it an ideal solution for implementing RAID systems," added Cowpland.
 PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
Shipping in April 1993, CorelRAID will carry a suggested list price of U.S.$995 and Cdn.$1195. CorelRAID is available through Corel distributors worldwide.
 CORELRAID
Corel, already an award-winning developer of SCSI software, integrates features into CorelRAID that distinguish it as one of the most flexible and powerful solutions available on the market. Requiring Novell NetWare 3.11, and IBM compatible 386, 486, or PS/2 computer, and ASPI compatible SCSI host adapter and a minimum of three SCSI hard drives, CorelRAID's features include the following:
 UNLIMITED FLEXIBILITY
-- Implements RAID levels 4 and 5 in a software solution.
-- Allows users to customize RAID configurations with industry
 standard products.
-- Supports all ASPI-based SCSI controllers.
-- Supports all SCSI hard drives.
-- Allows multiple arrays on a file server.
 FAULT TOLERANCE
-- Sustains the loss of a single drive in the array and maintains
all data stored on the volume.
-- Provides a hot standby and hot swap drive feature.
-- Provides fault tolerance with a minimum of redundancy.
-- Eliminates down time upon loss of a drive in the array.
-- Automatically reconstructs a failed drive in the background.
 SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR CONTROL
-- Constantly updates array status on the RAID management screen.
-- In the case of a drive failure, both the console and RAID
management screen notify the system administrator.
-- Allows the system administrator to repair the array without
 down time.
-- Permits two methods of drive repair. With the hot standby
support, CorelRAID automatically activates the designated hot
standby drive and rebuilds lost information. Hot swapping
allows the administrator to exchange the failed drive without
 downing the file server.
 EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE
-- CorelRAID spans data across each drive in the array, allowing
 concurrent access to the drives.
-- Caching in built-in for improved system performance.
-- Supports Novell NetWare 3.11 caching.
 EASY TO INSTALL AND USE
-- CorelRAID installs in minutes through the server console.
-- Administrator selects array drives from a list in the
 automatic installation.
