COREL ANNOUNCES 1993 CORELDRAW WORLD DESIGN CONTEST WINNERS; INTERNATIONAL PANEL OF JUDGES HONOR EIGHT COMPUTER ARTISTS

 OTTAWA, June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Eight international artist have been awarded top honors in the Fourth Annual CorelDRAW World Design Contest. Held at the National Gallery in Ottawa, Canada on May 20, 1993, the Design Contest featured over 3300 designs from over 40 countries worldwide. The CorelDRAW World Design Contest is the largest event of its kind in the software industry.
 "I'm speechless," said Phoenix resident and Best of Show winner, Georgina Curry, as she accepted her crystal award and two kilogram gold bar in front of more than 1,000 international guests.
 Asked how she'll invest her grand prize, Curry responded, "I'll use the gold to purchase advanced computer equipment for my business and to attend professional graphics seminars throughout the country."
 Curry's design, "Clara Bow" earned her the "Best of Show" award as well as first place in the category of Environmental Illustrations. Curry 's prize package is valued at over $50,000 Corel will feature Curry in an international print advertising campaign. Of the 56 finalists, first place winners were selected in seven categories:

 First place category winners received a $15,000 personal computing package which included a Canon color printer/scanner/ copier.
 Most of the 56 finalists attended the National Gallery to accept their awards, as their prize package included a round-trip airline ticket and accommodation. Finalists also received prizes contributed by Panasonic, Adaptec, Tektronix, Microsoft and Corel.
 This year's contest also featured a new Student's category open to youth 18 years and under. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, and currently a Victoria, British Columbia resident, Alan Chiu took top honors in the Student category. Chiu's landscape design, Ta Hu Lake, earned the 17 year-old a $3,000 scholarship.

"On the same day that we gather each year to launch a new and more powerful version of CorelDRAW, we also gather to celebrate new levels of international artistic achievement."

 Similar to previous years, Corel will publish the designs from the 1993 Design Contest in ArtShow 4, a full-color coffee-table book and companion multimedia CD-ROM. Set to launch in fall 1993, this year's ArtShow will feature more than 3300 designs from over 40 countries. ArtShow has become a valuable reference for users as it allows them to view and learn techniques used by CorelDRAW experts around the world. To date, ArtShow '91 and '92 have sold over 50,000 copies.
 Appropriately held in the Grand Hall, at the National Art Gallery of Canada, the Awards Night Gala capped-off a day of events that also marked the launch of CorelDRAW 4 -- the most recent release of Corel's award-winning Windows(TM) graphics software. Other events held the same day include product training seminars and panel discussions geared toward Corel's international distributors.
