COREL'S NEW PRICING STRATEGY INVITES ENTRY-LEVEL, PRICE-SENSITIVE GRAPHICS SOFTWARE AUDIENCE

OTTAWA, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- In preparation for the upcoming launch of CorelDraw 4, Corel Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: COSFF) announced today that it has reduced the suggested list price of its award-winning PC graphics software, CorelDraw 3, to U.S.$199/CDN.$249. Corel's new strategy will involve marketing both products simultaneously -- positioning CorelDRAW 3 as an ideal solution for the entry-level, price sensitive audience and the upcoming CorelDRAW 4 version as the choice for users who require additional functionality beyond the features provided with CorelDRAW 3.
"The success we enjoyed with the CorelDRAW competitive upgrade program confirmed our belief that we can access previously untapped markets by positioning CorelDRAW 3 as an entry-level program, at a special price," said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and CEO of Corel Corporation. "In contrast to competing graphics programs at entry-level prices, we will not strip our program of functionality to justify its new price. Instead, we will be offering the full package -- complete with all the features that have won CorelDRAW 3 over 40 awards."
As an entry-level program, CorelDRAW 3 provides several distinct benefits to graphics users. Its intuitive interface, on-line and video tutorials allow users to learn quickly and produce professional-quality brochures, letterhead, and advertisements easily. Yet, unlike programs at entry-level prices, CorelDRAW also accommodates increasing demands for power and versatility by including all of its award-winning features and modules -- CorelDRAW, CorelPHOTO-PAINT, CorelCHART, CorelSHOW, CorelTRACE and CorelMOSAIC. In addition, CorelDRAW 3 includes its complete library of fonts, symbols and clipart images, charting templates and presentation backgrounds.
To complement CorelDRAW 3's new market positioning the product slipcover has been redesigned. The trademark CorelDRAW balloon still figures prominently on the front panel, but the color of the new CorelDRAW 3 slipcover is white. Colorful and informative graphics are now featured on the back panel profiling each of CorelDRAW's modules. Feature specifications are now listed on a side panel.
 CorelDRAW 3
CorelDRAW 3 is the world's first PC graphics program that combines powerful illustration, photo-editing and painting, charting and presentation modules in a single package. The software includes CorelTRACE, a standalone color/black and white autotracing utility, and CorelMOSAIC, a visual file manager that allows batch importing, exporting and printing. A bonus CD-ROM offers more than 14,000 uncompressed clipart symbols and images, more than 250 TrueType and Type 1 fonts, animation flics, and sample CorelCHART templates, bitmaps, and professionally designed backgrounds.
 PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
Now shipping, CorelDRAW 3 carries a suggested list price of U.S.$199/CDN.$249 and is available from all major CorelDRAW distributors in the United States and Canada.
Through this redesigned marketing strategy, Corel plans to further develop its distribution network of leading consumer electronic, mass merchant stores and other retail outlets that cater to small businesses and home offices.
