CORE Construction Services of Arizona Inc. and HDA Architects Break Ground at New Elementary School in Phoenix.

PHOENIX -- CORE Construction Services of Arizona Inc. and HDA Architects broke ground yesterday for the new King's Ridge Elementary School located in Phoenix off Lower Buckeye Road and 64th Avenue. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Riverside Elementary School District board President Algia King, Superintendent Jack Bliss, the new principal Dr. Jaime Rivera and board members Bill Brooks, Vera Owens and Cheryl Banning.

The school district began in 1871 with Riverside Elementary School that had only 70 students enrolled. One hundred years later, there were 357 students enrolled but was in danger of being shut down due to lack of students until a local farmer hired several large families as laborers thus increasing the enrollment and saving Riverside School.

The farmer was Algia King, who owned over 600 acres, which his father bought in the 1920s and used for dairy farming. He was born on the farm and has lived there his whole life. He recently sold the parcel to the Riverside School District that will be used for the new King's Ridge Elementary School and named it in honor of his father.

HDA Architects, LLC will design the school with Brian Koskella as project manager and CORE Construction will build the school with Jim Bethell as superintendent.
